VALID stands for Verified Asset Logistics Information Domain and is available for any organization involved with or dependant on capital assets. Examples of such organizations are: healthcare, road and waterworks, production and petrochemical industries, air traffic and shipping, defense, energy, public transport, shipbuilding etc. It is important for all these organizations that their ASSETS are managed in a cost-effective way based on reliable information.

Most organizations don’t yet have an integrated information system and a lot of information is still archived by hand in folders or cabinets. Another possible scenario is keeping multiple different files on stand-alone computers using different applications that don’t communicate with each other. Studies show that many organizations are willing to move ahead and embrace an integrated solution.

VALID is based on standardized Microsoft SharePoint Portal technology and is divided into a number of standardized information portals. A VALID Portal is used as a central information and communication medium for Assets. A Content Manager manages one or more sites within the VALID Portal environment and using authorization other actors can view, change, add and/or delete information. A major advantage is that every actor involved with an Asset has access to the same information which helps create a unified Asset Management vision.

The basic VALID package consists of an Asset Management Control (AMC) Portal that has a number of standardized SharePoint sites linked to it. These sites can be Asset Management Portals, Installation Management Portals or Team Management Portals. This basic package is also known as VALID Base. Besides these Portals the VALID concept can also involve a number of Process Control Web Applications and Asset Control Desktop Tools. When using these add-on's VALID Base transforms into VALID+

Within the main VALID concept the following items are defined;

  • Asset Management involves the gathering and managing of information involving an Asset (like a ship or wind turbine installation) in an Asset Portal. Assets can be grouped (by ship class or wind turbine parks) into Asset group Portals. The Asset Management section can be expanded using the System Cost Effectiveness Indicator (SCEI) and AMICO Asset Control Tools.
  • Installation Management involves the gathering and managing of Installations within an Asset or group of Assets. These installations can range from ship sensors to wind turbine components. Installation Management Portals are the ideal location for documentation like maintenance reports or planning.
  • Team Management can come in many forms. For instance Team Portals, which can be used by specialized teams to exchange information or Project Portals that multiple teams can use for Project Management. It is also possible to use Study Portals for employee training.
  • Process Control is used in conjunction with VALID to manage organizational processes and to identify possible areas of improvement in Asset Management Processes. Process Management consists of the PRIMA Web Application and the P3 Portal.
    PRIMA is a readymade Web Application to evaluate organizational processes and to improve these processes if possible. A User/Manager only has to supply organizational-specific data and PRIMA will take care of the rest, like computational models and specific links to process information/procedures to be used as data sources.
    o The P3 Portal offers a standardized method of recording and managing company processes and allows for links to be made with process descriptions and documentation (floor plans, system information) etc. It also offers the possibility to expand on accepted standards and laws.
